As a clinical psychologist, my theoretical orientation or approach to therapy is rooted in the integration of various evidence-based practices and theories. I believe in tailoring therapy to meet the unique needs of each individual client. However, my overall approach can be described as eclectic, drawing from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic therapy.
CBT is a widely used approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It helps clients identify and challenge negative or irrational thoughts and beliefs that contribute to their distress. By replacing these thoughts with more rational and adaptive ones, clients can experience positive changes in their emotions and behaviors.
Psychodynamic therapy, on the other hand, emphasizes the exploration of unconscious processes and unresolved conflicts that may be influencing a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It examines early life experiences and the impact they have on current functioning. By bringing these unconscious processes to conscious awareness, clients can gain insight into their difficulties and develop healthier coping strategies.
