Some of the therapeutic approaches that I typically employ when working with individuals in a health psychology setting include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions.
CBT is a widely used approach in health psychology as it focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to physical or psychological health issues. By helping individuals recognize and challenge their unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, CBT aims to promote healthier coping strategies and improve overall well-being.
ACT is another approach that I often utilize in health psychology settings. It emphasizes acceptance of difficult thoughts and emotions while taking committed action towards living a valued life. This approach can be particularly helpful for individuals struggling with chronic health conditions, as it encourages them to focus on what is truly important to them and find ways to live a fulfilling life despite their health challenges.
