I have several years of experience working with individuals who have substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. In my role as a Health Psychologist, I have encountered numerous cases where individuals struggle with both substance abuse and mental health issues simultaneously.
One particular experience that stands out is when I worked with a client who had a severe alcohol addiction and was also diagnosed with depression. This client was experiencing significant distress and was unable to break the cycle of substance abuse, which was exacerbating their mental health symptoms.
To provide effective treatment, I conducted a thorough assessment to understand the client’s unique circumstances and needs. This involved gathering detailed information about their substance use patterns, mental health history, and any underlying factors contributing to their co-occurring disorders.
