Throughout my tenure as a Behavior Analyst, I have conducted numerous preference assessments to identify effective reinforcers for individuals with behavioral challenges in the community. These assessments have consistently played a crucial role in developing tailored behavior intervention plans (BIPs) that promote engagement, motivation, and positive behavioral outcomes.
In one instance, I worked with a young child who exhibited aggression and self-injurious behaviors due to limited expressive language skills. Through a paired-choice preference assessment, we identified high-interest toys, preferred social interactions, and sensory activities. Incorporating these reinforcers into the child’s BIP significantly reduced challenging behaviors and facilitated communication and social skills development.
