One example of a situation where I had to address a client’s lack of social support or isolation was when I worked with a middle-aged woman who had recently gone through a divorce and was feeling extremely lonely. She had moved to a new city for her job and did not have any friends or family nearby.
During our initial sessions, it became evident that her lack of social support was significantly impacting her mental health and overall well-being. She expressed feelings of sadness, anxiety, and a sense of being disconnected from others. It was important for me to address this issue in order to help her regain a sense of belonging and support in her life.
To start, I conducted a thorough assessment to understand her social network and identify any potential barriers to building social connections.
